Student Safety Representative

DISK’s Board includes a student safety representative who serves as a safety representative specifically for students. The representative is available to help DSV students with various problems that may arise in the study environment.

Confidentiality

The student safety representative is bound by confidentiality. This means that sensitive or personal information disclosed in connection with a case may not be shared with others.

The Role in Brief

✓ Represents students in matters concerning the study environment
✓ Can raise problems and communicate students’ views
✓ Does not have the authority to halt work
✓ Does not have access to confidential information
✓ Is bound by confidentiality
✓ Can take action in the capacity of an individual student

How Does the Role Differ from a Regular Safety Representative?

The difference between a student safety representative and a regular workplace safety representative is that the student safety representative does not have certain rights and responsibilities that a safety representative at a workplace would normally have.

Among other things, this means that the student safety representative does not have the same authority to intervene or require action to be taken.

Limitations of the Role

A student safety representative:

  • Does not have access to confidential information
  • Does not have the authority to halt work
  • Cannot request intervention from a regulatory authority in their role as student safety representative
  • Is not required to report incidents to the police that would normally need to be reported, such as threats or similar situations

 

The role therefore does not involve the same legal responsibilities as those held by a regular safety representative at a workplace.

What Can You Do as a Student?

Although the student safety representative cannot request intervention from a regulatory authority as part of their official role, they may do so in the capacity of an individual student.

This option is available to all students and is not limited to the person serving as the student safety representative.
